What are the Worship Services Like?

attention open in a new window PrintEmail

Some people like to celebrate the Christmas season by attending a beautifully presented rendition of Handel’s Messiah. Others, however, would rather attend a Do-It-Yourself Messiah so they can personally sing along. It is hard to genuinely maintain both performance and participation. At Fellowship, we would rather have young people who are developing their gifts and talents participate in the public worship services as opposed to focus only on the best and most polished performance that only accomplished musicians can attain.

Our worship services encourage high participation and include much Scripture reading, congregational singing, and the preaching of the Word of God.hands

Overall, the worship music in our services tends to be reflective of both the leaders as well as the most appropriate music for the occasion, Scripture chosen, and theme. We seek to include music that is both God-honoring and valuable for teaching and reinforcing biblical truths. Though the worship music incorporates only a few minutes of either the service or of a person’s week, we realize how significant and even divisive this issue has become. We encourage all believers to act maturely by learning to appreciate a stylistically wider range of worship music, respecting others who prefer a different approach, and participating whole-heartedly in a manner in which you are most comfortable. Worship songs are not for their entertainment value and we sing primarily to an audience of One. While music was intended to bring generations together, we are saddened that it has been hijacked to cause division in churches and families. We realize that for non-believers who do not have a relationship with Christ, even our best attempt at a culturally attractive music is still often undesired “church music,” compared to their normal listening fare. Why would they want to sing love songs to God when they do not even know Him? Part of the worship music we sing, however, is to encourage one another and with that in mind we seek to be as sensitive to including music that ministers to one another while without sacrificing the ultimate glory and pleasure going to the Lord.
